This research has been undertaken as part of the GEMM project, Growth, Equal Opportunities, Migration and Markets: www.gemm2020.eu. The paper presents results on the employment outcomes and types of jobs migrants, ethnic minorities and white British majority members do.

When we, as Māori (the Indigenous People of Aotearoa New Zealand), introduce ourselves, we locate ourselves in the land and the waters. These are genealogical as well as geographic links, with landscapes and ecosystems personified as ancestors and relations as well as recognized as resources and wealth.

Across the years it has become evident that major breakthroughs in research and science, power in politics, a wealth of economic stability and influential actors in many spheres have often come from affluent countries rather than those who rely on other communities for aid, and it is this marginalisation and lack of representation that GSAN aims to address.

For the last two weeks, organisations and climate leaders from around the globe have met to discuss the resounding issue of Climate Change, and how we can mitigate it. The Global Climate Action Summit called for a meeting of co-operators who were willing to commit to ensuring a climate-safe future for all. The word ‘Sharia’ in Arabic means ‘the way’ or ‘the path’. It exists within the Islamic Religion as a sense of moral guidance according to the teachings of the Quran and the Prophet. However, the Sharia can often be misinterpreted, especially by western cultures who may perceive it as an old-fashioned notion, advocating practises such as the young age of female marriage in Middle Eastern cultures, stoning or lynching as punishment for crimes, and unequal rights and opportunities for men and women in these areas of the world.

When GSAN was first founded, the concept of establishing powerful links and creating networks in all areas of the world seemed like a remote possibility. In recent months however, it has become evident that governments and organisations are beginning to co-operate across a vast array of issues, to share research and achieve common goals. One prominent example is the recent trip to Nepal undertaken by Gina Yannitell Reinhardt, Alejandro Quiroz Flores, Dominik Duell, and Shovita Adhikari.
